Photojournalism

For the Quill, I mostly focus on writing and editing. Photography has been an area that I have not focused on as much. I really do enjoy taking photographs, and I look forward to developing my skills more throughout the end of this year and in college. Here are a few photos that I really like and was proud to take. The photos I have chosen to showcase tell stories of exciting teamwork and new beginnings. I also help the Quill's photo editor with some of the photos she takes.

My Photos

Photo

for

Design

I took this photo of an ACT practice test for the purpose of the design. I planned out how I wanted the design to look and took the photo with that in mind.

Usually I design around the pictures, but for this spread, I took pictures around the design. We published this story in the fall 2018 issue.

Staging

Preparing

Pictures

This is a photo of me involved in an aspect of journalism. I work with Halle Robbins, the Quill's photo editor, to set up the photos she takes. This photo was taken by her at a local coffee shop. I was in the middle of moving the coffee cup to give the photo the best look, and she snapped the shot.

This was just a mistake, but we ended up liking it so much that we made it the cover.

This is another example of staging. For each issue this year, I make recipes. Then Halle and I work together to make the pictures the way we want them.

I made these pumpkin rolls for the fall 2018 issue. We wanted to keep the pictures in the theme of season: harvest. I also made apple cider and we used cinnamon sticks to add to the theme.
