About Me

My name is Hannah Loder.

I am a senior in high school and the current editor-in-chief of my school's newsmagazine called the Quill. I started on the staff last year, and I started learning what goes into a publication. I also worked hard to help edit articles because I love writing, editing and grammar rules. If that isn't cool to say, I don't care.

By the end of the year last year, I had plenty of ideas for this year's magazine. I met with the other editors multiple times to discuss our vision for the publication.

The biggest changes I wanted to see were in the subjects we cover. I started a recurring spread called "How Do You Show Kindness?" In this spread, we choose students who are nice to their peers, and we ask them to answer that question. With their responses, we add pictures from a photoshoot we take them out to do.

Another spread that promotes positivity is called "Daily Dose of Inspiration." I choose a quote each issue that can be described as inspirational and helpful. We have used photos and illustrations with this spread.

Through these new spreads, I want to show my peers how nice it is to be nice: to others and themselves. In each of my letters from the editor, I have focused on positive ideas like volunteering and being friendly to people. I like to share these concepts to students who are in a very influential time in their lives.

Additionally, I reorganized the Quill this year with the other editors. We changed the page numbers from the bottom of the page. We added illustrations because Natalie Ross, the art editor, is very talented. Lastly, we made categories to organize everything. All of these improvements have added dimension to the magazine and allowed myself and the other staff members to exercise our creativity.

I have completely loved my time on the Quill, and I am so excited to finish out this year. I have gained invaluable experience from this publication. For the future, I plan to study journalism in college. I will carry this experience with me to change the world with the words I write.
